I have some questions for you. Which is stronger, fear or hope? I also wish to know, is it better to protect people in compromise with evil, or to oppose the evil, and break it, knowing some of those you would protect will die?

2. Location: Makeout point, time: Midnight. [ An armored figure in white plate stares out over a town, heavily armed and searching for something, anything, really. Finally, he looks to the moon. ]

3. Location: 2237 Stevens. [ Garviel is sitting in the garage with the door open, working with tools on his armor's chest plastron, stripped to the waist, exposing huge, slab-like muscles stippled with neural-access points, as he slowly but surely carves delicate things into the inside of the breastplate. ]

4. The Park [ Garviel is running through his sword practice in full armor, wielding a one and a half meter long blade together with his chainsword, moving so quickly the weapons whirl about him like a silver sphere of death. Dare you approach? ]

5. L'Deplaisant [ A huge fellow in a suit that barely fits him approaches your table, and rumbles in a very deep voice. ] May I take your order?

"They don't have gods where you come from?"

Oh no... there are gods there. [ He shifts his weight slightly. ] Much to the detriment of Mankind.

[Cade looks a bit sad at that last bit.]

"...oh. Do you only have cruel gods, then? Or are they the over-meddlesome kind?"

In my experience, all gods are cruel.

"To be fair, it sounds like we come from very different worlds, so I guess we have very different gods."

[ The immense figure does not sound convinced. ]

[Awkward silence...]

So, how long have you been here, and who do you know?

"I have been here a little less than two months."

[Cade considers how much to tell this guy about who he knows. Eh, guy seems honest enough.]

"As for who I know... I'd consider myself good friends with Olivier Armstrong, Jenny Sparks, Death, and Mika Whitepaws. I also am fairly friendly with Rin Tohsaka, Pinkie Pie, Hajime Aikawa, Inara Serra, Tsunade, Nitori Kawashiro, Caroline Martinez, Floyd Belkin, Mamizou Futatsuiwa, Rapunzel, and Dr. Ilsa Higa. And I know a lot of other people, too... but honestly I'd be here for a long while if I listed off everyone."

[ Loken takes a few steps towards Cade. ]

How friendly, precisely, are you with Rin tohsaka?

[Cade rambles on because he likes to hear himself talk, totally oblivious of any potential danger from Loken.]

"Rin? Well, she kind of made herself at home one day, I found her practicing magic in my backyard. But I'm pretty social, so I didn't really mind. I've made her breakfast a couple times -she likes waffles, and I tried to cheer her up at prom. She seems highly interested in how magic works on my world...

She's pretty cute too, but she seems to have her heart set on some other fellow, otherwise I'd be trying harder to court her."

[ He gives Cade a cold look. ]

See that you do not. I am her partner and I do not brook interference in her romantic affairs. She has a hard enough road to walk already without any such... complications.

"Her... partner?"

Yes, her partner. Is that so strange?

"I'm just not sure what you mean... Her partner in what?"

But don't worry. I don't plan on bothering Rin with such stuff right now."

[ Garviel is the most talkative, really. ]

"My apologies, sir, but what is your name?"

"What does Rin call you?"

"Oh? Like the ancient fabled guardian of the shadow realm?"
